Interactions between Phosphorus and Humic Substances: Influence in P Bioavailability

چکیده

A number of studies have reported the beneficial effects of the organic matter on the bioavailability of P in different soil types. These effects have been attributed to several factors, including the possible formation of phospho-metal-humic complexes, which could protect P from retrogradation in both acid and alkaline-calcareous soils. However, the experimental evidence supporting the existence of these complexes in solis is scarce and principally based on indirect arguments. The aim of this article is to describe the different studies carried out in our laboratory in order to characterize the formation and stability of these complexes, as well as their effect protecting P from soil retrogradation and their potential availability for plants. These results are discussed considered along with other present in the literature.

Influence of Humic Substances on Irrigation Frequency and Phosphate Absorption of Creeping Bentgrass Putting Greens

Humic substances (HS) reportedly enhance moisture retention of soil. However, no information is available as to the effects of HS on sand-based golf course putting greens. HS have acidic functional groups (COOH) that are reaction sites on the molecule. An greenhouse experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect that the acidic functional groups in humic acid, tannic acid and citric acid have ...

Extraction of soil organic phosphorus.

Organic phosphorus is an important component of soil biogeochemical cycles, but must be extracted from soil prior to analysis. Here we critically review the extraction of soil organic phosphorus, including procedures for quantification, speciation, and assessment of biological availability. Quantitative extraction conventionally requires strong acids and bases, which inevitably alter chemical s...

The effect of pH, dissolved humic substances, and ionic composition on the transfer of iron and phosphate to particulate size fractions in epilimnetic lake water

Transformations of dissolved iron and phosphate to particulate material (>0.2 pm) were investigated by adding 55FeC1, and 32P0,3to pH adjusted epilimnetic lake water samples of contrasting ionic strengths and dissolved humic substances (DHS) concentrations. The distributions of these tracers between particulate size fractions in samples without appreciable DHS after 24 h of dark incubation vari...

Cation binding by humic substances

Humic substances are highly abundant organic compounds formed in soils and sediments by the decay of dead plants, microbes and animals. This book focuses on the important binding properties of these compounds that regulate the chemical reactivity and bioavailability of hydrogen andmetal ions in the natural environment. Topics covered include the physico-chemical properties of humic matter and i...

Naturally occurring iodine in humic substances in drinking water in Denmark is bioavailable and determines population iodine intake.

Iodine intake is important for thyroid function. Iodine content of natural waters is high in some areas and occurs bound in humic substances. Tap water is a major dietary source but bioavailability of organically bound iodine may be impaired. The objective was to assess if naturally occurring iodine bound in humic substances is bioavailable. Tap water was collected at Randers and Skagen waterwo...
